Children love movies. One way to get them to read is to have them read the book and then show them the movie. Your child can compare and contrast the similarities and differences. It's a lot of fun for you and your child.
Adult Fiction and Children's Lit
As kids transition to reading chapter books, it can be difficult to find them good literature crafted by master storytellers. I've found that authors who write both adult fiction and children's literature offer both exciting stories for young readers and a higher-level of writing that is still accessible. They are a truly great resource.
Keep Reading to Your Child
Even when your child is reading independently, continue to allow time to read to them. This increases comprehension and vocabulary, higher level reading skills. In addition it develops a life-long bond of the love of reading between you and your child.
